2013-03-11

Indonesian pair, and last year’s winners, AHMAD/NASTIR were up against China’s Zhang Nan/Zhao Yun Lei in the final of the mixed doubles at the All-England Open Badminton Championship 2013. AHMAD/NASTIR were able to control the rhythm of the match throughout and it was a surprisingly one-sided affair, the Indonesian's taking the match in straight games 21-13, 21-17 to claim their second All-England mixed doubles title in a row.

Last year’s winners AHMAD/NASTIR were up against the London Olympic champions Zhang Nan/Zhao Yun Lei in the mixed doubles final. It was widely believed beforehand that, with both pairs being top pairs in the world and closely-matched, their duel would be fiercely contested and close, however, as it turned out the Indonesians played brilliantly, dominating both serve and receipt of serve, and were on the attack for much of the match.

Also, NATSIR successfully suppressed Zhao Yun Lei at the net, making the match tough going for the Chinese, who were unable to find their usual rhythm. AHMAD/NASTIR took the match 21-13, 21-17, achieving their objective of retaining the title. The pair signed a sponsorship contract with VICTOR earlier this year and this was their first international tournament as VICTOR-sponsored players. Their success shows that they have adjusted well to their new rackets, shoes and clothes.

In the men’s singles final Malaysia’s badminton king Lee Chong Wei and China’s top men’s singles Chen Long were up against each other. Lee’s age may have affected his stamina as he was unable to cope with Chen’s attacks and went down 17-21,18-21, having to settle for second place.

“Queen,”  as Tine Baun was called by the fans, at the match beat Thailand’s young Inthanon Ratchanok 2:1 in the women’s singles final, bringing her professional career to a perfect end. China’s men’s doubles pair Liu Xiao Long/Qiu Zi Han beat Japan’s ENDO/ HAYAKAWA  21-11,21-9 winning by a wide margin in both games to take the men’s doubles title. Two pairs from China faced each other in the women’s doubles final, Yu Yang/Wang Xiao Li taking the title.
